Helping people understand their Covid-19 exposure risk whilst keeping their data private.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us all to think of ways in which we can make a contribution to controlling the virus. For the tech industry, this has resulted in a number of novel solutions, many of which have raised significant concerns over data privacy.
Our wave
In partnership with Case Western Reserve University and Dataswift, we created ShareTrace, a mobile app providing people with a personalised risk score based on a number of Covid-19 risk factors including their reported symptoms, underlying health conditions, demographic information and social interactions.
Our impact
ShareTrace was designed from the outset to preserve privacy by leveraging Dataswift One, a state-of-the-art privacy by design architecture in which data storage and processing is decentralised in the cloud. To date, the privacy preserving principles have resulted in a number of planned pilots across the United States.
Working with We Make Wave was fantastic. They understood the purpose of the project and offered thoughtful suggestions for design and engineering alternatives. They truly understand the ethical and social implications of digital technology and help us to realize our mission.
